The horses may been long gone but the old grandstand at the former Pakenham Racecourse will stand for at least another three years for community activities according to developers of new residential development, Ascot Park.
With the project now in its final stages of planning, the old racing stalls were demolished last Friday.
“Construction works to demolish the old committee dining room, snack bar and tote building have recently commenced, and the racing stalls have already been demolished in order to make way for initial road and civil works across the site,” ISPT development manager Matt Ablehorpe said.
“The old grandstand, however, will remain on-site for the next three or more years to house Ascot’s sales office, and we also have plans to incorporate the grandstand in a number of on-site community activities over the next 12 to 24 months.”
Ascot Park is expected to pay homage to the site’s former heritage.
