Dance for the homeless

BERWICK Library’s popular storyteller Judith Wardale wants people to attend a “hope for the homeless” supper dance at St Francis Xavier College, Beaconsfield, on Saturday 29 April.
Ms Wardale, who is the Australian coordinator for the Bangalore Multipurpose Social Service Society (BMSSS), said the money would go towards building small homes for people in the Kolar District, Karnataka in Southern India.
She said a BMSSS survey identified an acute lack of safe, sound, dignified housing in the Kolar District community.
“Families identified were living under plastic gunnys and lean to huts made of brush and mud,” she said.
“In some cases families were living together in substandard rented premises and constantly under threat of physical violence, sexual abuse, and fear of eviction.
“They were without dignity, security or hope.”
Ms Wardale said $3000 would put a family under cover. Further details available from Judith on 04 1056 1148.
