A BIG brother rushed to his trapped sibling’s aid at a Pakenham playground on Monday morning.
Denver, 12, ran from PB Ronald Reserve to the fire station when seven-year-old Harry’s head became wedged beneath a wheelchair swing.
The CFA’s Angus Mair and a colleague returned with the child, and were the first emergency services on the scene.
“The swing was on top of his head and he was stuck,” Mr Mair said.
“People on the scene had already rung triple-zero.”
CFA and SES crews including the Pakenham Road Rescue Unit were soon on-scene, and cut a pole so they could lift the seat off Harry.
Paramedics were called to the park about 11.55am and took Harry to Casey Hospital with injuries to his head and face.
“They weren’t serious,” an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said.
Mum Melissa was by the Pakenham Consolidated School student’s side as he screamed, “I don’t want it, get it off” as paramedics put on a neck brace.
They placed him on a spine board and wheeled him to the ambulance on a stretcher.
Police and council staff then photographed the swing, checking chains and graffiti-covered signage.
“We will be conducting a full investigation to find out if there were any contributing factors to the event, or any learnings we can take from it,” Cardinia Shire Council municipal emergency manager Myles O’Reilly said.
He said the area would be chained off and the swing disconnected until the investigation into the “unfortunate and unique incident” was complete.
Mr O’Reilly said the swing was an important facility and the council wanted to see it back online.
