PAKENHAM Racing Club chief executive Michael Hodge reckons he is on a winner after backing the inaugural Casey Cardinia Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch to the tune of $2500.
Mr Hodge this week confirmed the club would take out a Gold sponsorship for the event, to be held at the Cardinia Cutural Centre on Friday 12 September to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research.
“It is such a fantastic cause and the club is more than happy to help out,” Mr Hodge said.
“It should be a great event.”
Star News Group, which is following the lead of other newspaper groups and spearheading the campaign locally, has chipped in $5000 to become a patron sponsor.
Managing director Paul Thomas said Star was excited to be involved in the first Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch in the Casey-Cardinia region.
Mr Thomas said he seen these events evolve in varous other parts of Victoria and interstate, after being set up by Shepparton newspaperman Chris McPherson, and had seen the enormous benefits that came with raising awareness among men in the community and helping to fund research initiatives to help combat the disease.
“I hope the wider communithy will get involved by supporting the event through sponsorship and attending the lunch to help make a difference,” he said.
St John of God in Berwick and the Pakenham branch of Bendigo Bank have also come on board as $1000 Silver sponsors.
The Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch, expected to attract more than 400 people, will feature former Australian Test cricketer Damien Fleming and AFL star Scott Cummings.
Tickets are $110 a head, which includes lunch, all drinks and a full afternoon of entertainment. Tables of 10 are encouraged.
