FACING an increasing number of call-outs, the Clematis Fire Brigade has welcomed a timely $100,000 Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program grant towards a new light tanker.
The new $200,000 tanker will also be bankrolled by funds from the CFA and the brigade itself, which will stump up $22,000 of its own money.
Captain Jarryd Miller said he hoped the new tanker would help boost volunteer numbers.
“We had an old truck which was 22 years old, that was replaced by a 17-year-old vehicle, so this tanker will be very handy,” he said.
“It’s a 12-month process so we’re hoping to get hold of the tanker between April and July. We’re also hoping to get a new station out here.”
Member for Gembrook Brad Battin, who completed basic skills training with the brigade, said the grant would strengthen the commitment of CFA volunteers.
“I appreciate the support of the local brigade and now have a better understanding of the incredible commitment of CFA volunteers, even before they attend their first turnout,” he said.
“Clematis Fire Brigade are attending an increasing number of call-outs, many of which are on narrow, steep local roads. The light tanker will be a valuable resource for the brigade.”
