The state’s only school for blind and vision impaired people will officially open next Friday in Berwick.
The ribbon cutting at Insight Education Centre for the Blind and Vision Impaired is due to be attended by Monash University Chancellor Dr Alan Finkel, Flinders MP Greg Hunt, Senator Mitch Fifield, Education Minister Martin Dixon and La Trobe MP Jason Wood.
The school provides students with the opportunity to gain independence, responsibility and confidence.
Alan Lachman, Insight’s founder and father to blind student Francesca, said the opening was “a dream come true”.
The school caters for about 10 primary school-aged students and has plans to increase numbers significantly in the future.
