THE perimeter of new housing estate Ascot Park is fast becoming an eyesore, Pakenham residents say.
John Walker, who lives in the area, said the nature strip along Racecourse Road had become badly overgrown on both sides of the fence line and needed urgent maintenance.
“If I wanted to live near a Noble Park building site I would,” he said.
“It’s going to turn into an absolute tip.”
Both council and Ascot Park developer ISPT said they were committed to the site’s upkeep but did not indicate when further maintenance may occur.
Council General Manager Planning and Development Phil Walton said it was in discussions with the developers.
“Council is in discussion with the developer to ensure that appropriate maintenance levels are maintained around the perimeter of the former Pakenham Racecourse land,” he said.
A spokesperson for ISPT said the nature strip was a job for the council.
“Council is to maintain footpaths and nature strips, while ISPT is to ensure no vegetation encroaches into these areas,” he said.
Mr Walker suggested developers should put shade cloth up on the surrounding fence.
