AN AWARD winning Tynong vineyard has taken out another major award as part of a Gippsland wine showcase.
Cannibal Creek Winery and Vineyard won the Best Sparkling category with their Methode Champenoise 2010 and Top Gold for its Sauvignon Blanc 2014.
Kirsten Hardiker from Cannibal Creek Vineyard said that the 2011 Cannibal Creek Chardonnay Gold has “a good line of acidity which harmonises perfectly with palate texture and oak”.
On Wednesday 29 October winemakers, sponsors and wine lovers flocked to the RACV Resort in Inverloch for the premier wine event of the Gippsland Wine Show presentation night.
In its ninth year, the master of ceremonies for the evening was well-known writer, comedian and political satirist Bryan Dawe.
A total of 164 wines from 29 producers were critiqued by a first class panel of judges including Dan Buckle of Domain Chandon in the Yarra Valley.
Steve Flamsteed from Innocent Bystander/ Giant Steps and Lisa Jenkins, sommelier at European/ City Wine Shop were the other two judges.
Six other medals were also won for their Cannibal Creek Chardonnay 2011, 2012 and 2013, their Cannibal Creek Pinot Noir 2012, and their 2013 Cannibal Creek Cabernet Merlot 2013.
Cannibal Creek Winery and Vineyard was also highly regarded at the Vic100 Wine Show in the city in September for their 2012 Chardonnay.
Only wines produced from Gippsland grown grapes were eligible to enter the Gippsland Wine Show, creating a significant reputation for the event across Australia.
There were many categories that producers could enter their wines into including best alternate white, best chardonnay and best pinot noir, to name a few.
