ROUND 2 of the club championships was played on Saturday, with the fields starting to tighten up in all grades.
Heading into this week’s final round Peter Pfaifer has a slender two-shot lead in the championship over Mick McManus, while Clint Walker sits one-shot further adrift in third place. Michael Hildebrand still holds his lead in B Grade by one shot over Mark Klaver, with Peter Zoldak and Frankie Chiu are a further two shots back. Corey Green is still holding a five-shot advantage in C Grade over John Piggott with what looks to be a race for two leading into the final round. Sean Henderson has a strangle hold on the junior championship, with a 10-shot lead.
The AMPOL Shield (best nett) is being led by Corey Green on 143, with a four-shot lead over Peter Zoldak on 147. The leading eight players in each grade will be seeded together for the final starting at 11am. With tight scoring in all grades, an exciting finish is on the cards this Saturday.
With club championships coming to a close, attention turns to the annual tournament, starting on Thursday, 4 December and going through until Sunday, 7 December. Entry forms are now available in the pro shop and on the club’s website. The annual tournament is now shared between Pakenham and District Golf Club and Trafalgar Golf Club, and hosted bi-annually by each club, this year’s tournament will be played at Pakenham and District Golf Club, with the 2015 Tournament to be played at Trafalgar.
The Christmas Raffle closes on Monday, 15 December. The Christmas Raffle is a great way for members to help raise funds to be utilized around the club.
With 2014 quickly coming to an end, the club is already looking at events that are coming up in 2015. One of the major events every year is the Pro-Am and next year’s Pro-Am will be played on Friday 16 January. Entry into the Pro-Am is limited so competitors need to get their entry and payment in quickly to secure a spot. Anyone interested in coming on board as a sponsor for next year’s Pro-Am, please speak to Haydn or Jason, sponsorship of the Pro-Am gives company’s the perfect opportunity to expose themselves to a vast database, as well as having a great day on the course with a touring professional.
MIDWEEK
IN MONDAY competition (10 November) 50 players took to the course with hot scoring the order of the day. Tom Reid was the winner with a great score of 44 points, Bobby Edwards was second on count-back with 42 points from Peter Diss in third. Balls down the line went to 36 points, while nearest the pins were Frank Leontini 2nd and Bobby Edwards 8th and 14th.
WITH 75 players in Wednesday’s competition, three grades were introduced for the first time.
A Grade was won by Heath Barclay (11) with 36 points on count-back from Andrew Villinger (+1) in second place with 36 points. B Grade was won by Rob Sandiford (15) with 43 points from Graeme Steel (21) in second place with 41 points. C Grade was won by Kevin Wraight with a magnificent score of 46 points, with Alan Borch unlucky to be second with 44 points. Kevin also took out the super comp with 22 points around the front nine on count-back. The ball comp went down to 37 points. Nearest the pins were; Andrew Villinger 2nd and 8th, Warwick Cakebread 14th, and Mal Davey 16th. The super comp went to Darren Grayson.
Winner of the twilight competition (5 November) was Shane Wilkinson (11) with 24 points. The ball rundown went to 20 points.
SATURDAY
ROUND 2 of the club championships (15 November) was played under more benign conditions to the week prior with the scores certainly reflected this. The overall winner for the day was Gary Clymo (25) with 67 nett on count-back from C-Grade second place George Fatouros (31) with 67 nett. A Grade was won by Mark Woodbridge (12) with 70 nett, with Ian Mortimer (12) second with 71 nett. B Grade was won by Mark Blick (14) with 68 nett on a count-back to John Hoare (18) 68 nett. Balls down the line went to 73 nett. Nearest the pins were; Anthony McManus 2nd, Peter Pfaifer 5th, Michael Minogue 8th, Brian Seers 14th, and Colin Maclean 16th Hole. Taking the last six holes were; A Grade – Ian Mortimer 21 nett, B Grade – Frankie Chiu 19 nett, and C Grade – Kevin Wraight 18 nett.
SUNDAY
BRIAN Bateup (18) was Sunday’s winner with 37 points. The ball rundown went to 31 points.
LADIES
LAST Thursday (6 November) was the first round of the ladies’ club championships, with very warm and windy conditions making scoring very difficult.
Shirley Roberts has a sizeable lead in A Grade after shooting a score of 88 to lead by 16 shots. Yvonne Barrot has also opened up a formidable lead in B Grade after one round, shooting 99 to lead by 14 shots. Faye Barnes and Muriel Mills are tied first in C Grade whilst Aileen Fromhold and Shirley McGrath have a slender two-shot lead over Rena Bueler in D Grade.
In daily competition results A Division was won by Yvonne Barrot (27) with 72 nett. B Division went to Leanne Barker (33) with 78 nett while C Division was taken by Faye Barnes (37) with 76 nett. Balls down the line went to 76 nett. Nearest the pins were; Val Carroll 2nd, Kay Jones 14th, and Yvonne Barrot 2nd shot/16th.
