WHEN a soon-to-be bride learnt a Pakenham family friend was making her a wedding dress cake, she never expected the extravagant gift to come.
Lynette Stokie, who was married in August to husband Johnny, said she was gobsmacked when she finally saw the cake which was a life-size replica of her sentimental gown.
“When she first told me she would be making me a cake of my wedding dress, I initially thought this would be a standard cake size, possibly a couple of tiers,” the stunned bride recalled.
“How wrong I was!
“This cake was to my measurements. It was life-size and it took at least an hour for all the guests to realise it was in fact a cake and not just a spare dress in case I spilled something on my first!”
Belinda Hibbert, who designed the almost entirely edible cake from her Pakenham home studio, gave the newlyweds the greatest gift of all, Lynette said.
“It was really, really amazing.
“It was by far the most unique gift and one we will always remember. I was so overwhelmed to think she’d put so much effort into me on my day,” she said.
Belinda said the mud chocolate cake, covered in butter cream and air-brushed fondant was a labour of love carefully prepared over five weeks.
“When people realised it was a cake, they stampeded in to see me cut the cake and how it was assembled,” she said.
The cake, which went viral over social media on the couple’s big day, has been a great omen to the start of their married life together with the pair recently buying a family home in Clyde.
