CARDINIA Shire farmers have an opportunity to put their farm on the map.
Healthy Together Cardinia Shire is creating a ‘story map’ of farms which provide and sell local produce in Cardinia Shire.
The story map is an interactive online tool which will be available on the council’s website. It will feature information about where locally produced fruit and vegetables are grown and how residents can access the produce.
Cardinia Shire mayor Leticia Wilmot said any farmers interested in, literally, putting their farm on the map, should contact the council and get involved.
“In these early stages, the council is asking for farmers to express their interest in the project – it has so many benefits for local farmers. Not only is it a little bit of free advertising but it can save on packaging and transport costs if farmers can sell their produce right from the gate, through local businesses or initiatives like the South East Food hub,” Cr Wilmot said.
“Residents can also use the tool to access the freshest fruit and vegetables while being confident they know how it was grown and where – not to mention the opportunity to talk to those involved in growing the produce.”
Healthy Together Cardinia Shire is improving the health of Victorians, funded by the Victorian Government.
