POLICE are cracking down on hoons and law breakers in a bid to keep roads safe over the busy Christmas period.
On Sunday 14 December, Cardinia Highway Patrol issued 25 fines to a range of offenders including a woman caught driving almost 40km/h over the speed limit.
The driver, who was detected travelling 118km/h in an 80 km/h speed zone, lost her licence and was fined $554 and six demerit points.
A learner driver was also caught out by police driving without a fully licensed driver and with displaying their “L” plates.
Residential roads will also be patrolled by police over the summer season.
Police issued 12 fines to drivers driving over the 50km/h speed limit along Ahern Road, Pakenham, last week.
A driver caught travelling 89km/h in the 50km/h zone was slapped with a six-month ban on driving along with a $554 fine and loss of six demerit points.
Another driver was also detected travelling 30km/h over the speed limit.
Police suspended the driver’s licence for one month as well as issused a $406 fine and four demerit points. Police are taking a no-nonsense approach to drivers caught speeding, alcohol or drug-affected, or using their mobile as part of Operation TRANSCEND.
The operation aims to increase police numbers on the road to reduce the chance of trauma over the Christmas season.
