A BERWICK school has a junior chess champion amongst its ranks.
Year 9 student Kani Balamurugan Veni from St Margaret’s School was recently crowned winner at the 2015 Chess Victoria Age Group Rapid Chess Championship in the 13-year-old girl category.
The student, who has been smiling ear to ear after the big win on Sunday 22 February, was up against stiff competition but none as good as herself.
Trophies were awarded to the top three players from each division.
