A DANGEROUS intersection in Dalmore which has been the site of several serious road crashes has been put forward for federal funding to improve road safety.
The Dalmore and Manks roads intersection has recorded two serious injuries and two other crashes resulting in injuries in the past five years.
Cardinia Shire Council’s Senior Traffic Engineer Nicholas Charrett said council applied for funding applications to improve the dangerous intersection in August last year.
“To address the crash history of the location, council also applied for Federal Black Spot funding to realign Dalmore Road at Manks Road and create a double offset staggered t-intersection,” he said.
He said council also recently undertook short term works to improve delineation and sight lines under VicRoads Safer Roadsides Countermeasures Program.
The project cost is estimated at $343,000.
Dalmore resident Debbie Hobson wrote to the Gazette in October 2013 with her concerns about the dangerous intersection which she believes attracted at least a crash a month.
“Living 200 metres from this intersection for the last four and a half years, I have seen too many accidents and injuries as a result of collisions on this part of our road system,” she wrote.
“There is something seriously wrong when an accident occurs so frequently at the same place.”
Leading Senior Constable Brad Lee from Kooweerup police is currently investigating a crash that occured at the dangerous intersection. Black spot funding is considered at sites where two or more injury crashes have occurred over the last five years.
Cardinia Shire Council also applied for Federal Black Spot funding Caldermeade Road/Heads Road in Caldermeade, Army Road in Pakenham, Rainy Hill Road in Cockatoo, Henry Road/McGregor Road in Pakenham and McDonalds Track in Lang Lang.
Council officers consulted with Victoria Police and VicRoads when preparing the federal funding applications.
VicRoads is currently processing the applications.
