FOLLOWING enormous success around the world, on-demand streaming website Netflix was recently made available to Australian users.
For a flat rate of $9.99 a month, subscribers to the service have access to an extensive catalogue of movies and TV shows.
They are also offered content exclusive to Netflix, with some series gaining notoriety in the TV world.
House of Cards, Arrested Development and Orange is the New Black were each released by the season on Netflix, and have gone on to gain a wide fan base and pick up various awards.
Families can share their Netflix account, with each registration allowing up to four users to be added.
Early criticism of the service has seen some users angry that despite paying a similar rate, Australians do not have access to as wide a library as other countries.
There’s still enough to keep you going for days on end, though, with Netflix offering the full catalogue of popular shows such as How I Met Your Mother and Doctor Who.
It is hoped that Netflix will be help in curbing Australia’s high levels of online piracy, giving users access to a wide range of content at an affordable price.
There is also the question of the impact that Netflix will have on cable services such as Foxtel, however at this early stage it is hard to see any real effect.
Users get their first month for free, so if you find it’s not you’re thing, you won’t be charged. You can watch Netflix on your laptop, tablet or even mobile phone.
If your TV schedule is getting out of control, or you’re just looking for something new and interesting to watch, Netflix may be the answer.
