Market down but buyers keen

There were approximately 200 cows and bulls penned at VLE Pakenham this week, representing a decrease of 100 head week-on-week.
The usual buying group was present and operating in a dearer market.
Demand remained strong for the limited offering with buyers keen for a share.
Quality was good with a large proportion of the cows being heavy weight, three and four score beef cows.
Prices improved four cents to eight cents for the cows while the bulls improved around 10 cents per kilogram.
Most light and medium weight cows sold from 158 cents to 178 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight cows made mostly between 174 cents and 200 cents per kilogram.
Heavy weight bulls sold between 197 cents and 250 cents per kilogram.
A handful of grown heifers showing good finish made from 197 cents to 224 cents per kilogram.
