TRAFFIC lights tipped to improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians were opened in Cardinia last week.
MP for Gembrook Brad Battin opened the intersection last Friday 1 May, connecting Shearwater Drive and Arena Parade with Cardinia Road.
The lights are part of the Coalition’s $18.73 million plan to improve safety and ease congestion on Cardinia Road.
Mr Battin said the development was vital in supporting growth in the region.
“The first stage of upgrades delivered by the Coalition Government will ensure greater safety for local commuters and school pedestrians at the nearby Lakeside Primary School,” he said.
He also called on the Andrews Government to commit to the duplication of Cardinia Road in the state budget.
“If Daniel Andrews does not fund the next stages of the Cardinia Road upgrade in the upcoming state budget, local commuters will continue to be stuck in traffic,” he said.
“The South East Growth corridor has more than seven families a day move to the area, Daniel Andrews is ripping out funding for major infrastructure. To date he has paid $640 million to not build the East West Link, paid $30 million to remove new signalling for the Pakenham Railway Line and now he will not deliver the final, fully funded stage of Cardinia Road.”
The duplication of Cardinia Road across the Pakenham Railway line was funded by the Coalition in the 2014 State Budget.
