Who’s a pretty girly girl?

By LIA SPENCER

Isla’s turned into a real ‘girly girl’ as of late.
Whenever the opportunity presents itself, she will go through my handbag, get into my make-up and lotions or steal my shoes.
Every morning when I am getting ready for the day, she will go to my closet and grab the ridiculously tall heels I only wear at special events.
“Mum, shoes,” she says while slipping them on my feet, followed by a demanding ‘walk!’
Often she puts one of her tiny feet in one of my giant heels and goes for a wander.
She’s not even two and can almost walk better in heels than me.
I only let her do one lap of the kitchen before insisting she takes them off (because I do not want to have to explain to a doctor she rolled her ankle by wearing stilettos).
When she’s done wearing my shoes, she rummages through my handbag.
On one occasion she found my bright red lipstick and covered not only the bottom half of her face in it, but went to town on her doll.
“Pretty” she said when I caught her.
I have since found a new spot on the top shelf of my closet to store my bag.
The most recent case of extreme beauty came when she got hold of the toothpaste which I had left just within her reach on the bathroom bench.
She squeezed it out and rubbed it all over her face and through her hair.
Luckily I washed the toothpaste out pretty easily, but I had seen photos on Facebook this week of other mums who were not so lucky.
There was a post making the rounds showing toddlers who had tried to make things pretty, and instead created a huge mess.
One child covered themselves and the rest of the house in flour; another smeared Sudocrem all over the television and one creative kid coloured their baby sibling with texta.
So I guess a little lipstick ain’t so bad! Send your funny stories or photos to lia.spencer@starnewsgroup.com.au.
