Backline backbone

Sinking the slipper into anything red and leathery that came near him, Berwick's Ben Yearot is a star in the making from square to square no matter his task. 139530 Pictures: JARROD POTTER

LITTLE LEGEND – Ben Yearot
A NOBLE Blue through and through is Berwick under-10s utility Ben Yearot.
Wherever he was needed, Ben stood tall and did his job.
The wily eight-year-old ruckman dominated through the centre – winning numerous tap-outs to find his fleet-footed midfield teammates.
After that was a role down back, guarding Narre South Lions’ dangerous forward line.
It was another task Yearot took in his stride as he spoiled, out-marked his opponents and drove out of the backline time after time.
The day ended up forward for one of Berwick’s best as Ben’s leading and marking once again had the Lions running for cover.
Booting a massive goal and watching his team mates get around him was the highlight of the afternoon for Ben who is already on the fast track to bigger and better things on the footy field.
Who knows what Ben will be able to do in the years to come if he keeps shining in the South East Juniors.
Considering his ability to mark, generate hit-outs and boot match-defining goals, I wouldn’t be shocked if his beloved Carlton Blues tap him on the shoulder and get him down to Princes Park urgently.
