FROM Berwick to Doha – boxing has taken Jason Whateley a fair way around the world recently in pursuit of his Olympic dreams.
Whateley, 24, competed for Australia at the 2015 Doha International Boxing Tournament, which serves as a test event for the 2015 AIBA World Championships.
Fighting his way through the qualifying and initial bouts, Whateley finished second at the event, picking up a silver medal in the heavyweight division.
The 196cm, 91kg powerhouse was beaten in the final by Jordan’s Ihab al-Matbouli.
Fingers crossed Whateley will return to Qatar later this year for a far bigger prize – battling the best on earth in the 2015 World Boxing Championships from 2 to 18 October.
