Kitchen fire closes store

SOME may have to change lunch plans after a small kitchen fire this morning (Thursday) closed the Pakenham Hungry Jacks store.

The CFA were called to the store around 7am after a small fire broke out in the kitchen area.
Owner Jimmy Singh made the decision to close for the day soon afterwards, denying many their morning coffee or a spot of breakfast on the way to work.

“The guys came in and turned the fryer on. I think there was a bit of a spark that caught fire. Once it caught fire, we called the fire trucks in and they got it under control in close to 10 minutes,” he said.

The damage to the kitchen area was minimal.

“There is no big damage. It’s just the fryer that needs to be looked at,” Mr Singh said.

It is unclear when the fast food outlet will reopen as council and insurance companies investigate the damage.

No one was injured.
