Stab victim speaks out

16-year-old Monica Hawkins is moving on from her stabbing attack.

STAB-victim Monica Hawkins has spoken about last month’s Fountain Gate attack that left her fighting for her life.
The Pakenham teenager has described her fear of never being able to speak to her family again as she felt her life ebbing away during the emergency air-lift to hospital.
“When I didn’t know if I was going to make it, that was the scary part,” she said.
“None of my family was there and I had things I needed to say to them.”
Now back home but not yet fully recovered, Monica feels mostly unchanged, other than having a bit more of a safety focus on her mind.
Importantly, she said the stabbing will not become the defining moment of her life.
“I’m still alive and I’m happy to be alive, so I’m going to live and not dwell on this small thing that’s happened,” she said.
