UP against hundreds of talented young performers from across Victoria, Pakenham’s own Nathan Hancock beat them all.
In a gruelling month-long audition process, 16-year-old Nathan was finally given a principal singer’s role in this years Victorian State School Spectacular.
Performing alongside 25 other principal singers Nathan will belt out Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ solo at the Hisense Arena on Saturday 12 September.
“There will be 20 dancers around me as I perform the most emotional song in the spectacular, which is a really big opportunity for me,” Nathan explained.
The Year 10 student has been practicing his performance since April this year and managed to land the role without a singing teacher.
“I had to sing about six songs to get through; it was pretty intense waiting each week to find out if I got through to the next stage.
“The thought of the show is overwhelming – I didn’t think I’d ever get this far with my singing,” he said.
Themed ‘What’s Your Story’ the State School Spectacular will be broadcast on Channel Seven and Nathan said it had been an experience he hoped to continue.
“I’m going to strive to be in it next year as well – I’ve definitely learnt that I’m a better singer than I ever thought I was and am so lucky to be performing a song I can relate to,” he said.
With a big backing from family and friends Nathan said he’s going to chill out his nerves before he walks out on Hisense Arena.
“It’s the biggest live show I’ve ever been a part of having only performed in school shows for a couple hundred people so this will be amazing and singing is my passion so I’m not going to let nerves take over,” he said.
Nathan is currently waiting to get a glimpse of his costume before a week of intense rehearsals.
