Smaller market pushes demand

FEWER head were yarded at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange last Wednesday, but demand has not eased with all categories selling to increased prices and averages.
Very few bullocks were penned with only six in attendance.
Heifers averaged lighter but demand was strong.
Steer numbers were similar to the previous week, and demand from processors, feedlots and restockers saw steer prices outstrip all other categories.
Around half the number of vealers compared to the previous sale saw demand and competition stronger.
Several pens of light store type calves saw restockers strong with this category selling open auction to a top of $720.00.
This week’s yard average was up 16 cents to 299.3 cents.
Six bullocks made to 322 cents, up 12 cents, and averaged 287.6 cents, up 15 cents; 60 heifers made to 331.6 cents, up 21.6 cents, and averaged 278.9 cents, up seven cents; 50 steers made to 336.6 cents, up 167.6 cents, and averaged 314.2 cents, up 29 cents and 171 veal made to 360.6 cents, up 13 cents, and averaged 305.7 cents, up 14 cents.
