BASED on cartoons written by Charles Addams, The Addams Family is a show not to be missed.
Performed by the cast at Cardinia Performing Arts Company, it tells the story of a family on the outskirts of New York City.
Far from the original TV series, Wednesday Addams, played by Emily Hansford, has grown up and fallen in love with a smart, young man, Lucas Beineke, played by Lucas Neale. Although he’s from a respectable family in Ohio, her parents have never met him.
Pressure mounts when Wednesday tells her father Gomez, played by Joshua Ide, her plans to marry her boyfriend. Wednesday and her father then try and keep this from her mother Morticia, playedby Genya Mik, but struggle to keep the secret.
The two families eventually meet for an eventful dinner at the Addams house, where truths are revealed in the classic game of Full Disclosure.
Throughout the show, the outstanding chorus play the role of the ghoulish ancestors of the Addams family.
Director Lee Geraghty has once again succeeded. This strangely remarkable group of characters have produced a remarkable performance.
The musical is on at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham until 4 September. Tickets are $32 for adults, concession $29, children 15 and under $25 and family (two adults and two children) $105.
