THE Officer Netball Club is pleased to have moved into new headquarters after months of anticipation.
The new netball pavilion at Officer Recreation Reserve, which began construction in November last year, was officially opened on Thursday 27 August to a number of netball players keen to make the most of the new sporting space.
The facility was funded by the Cardinia Council’s 2014/15 capital works program along with a $380,000 grant through Federal La Trobe MP Jason Wood under the Community Development Grants program.
Cardinia mayor Leticia Wilmot said the facility will not only provide netball players a place to get active, but also to socialise with team members.
“The netball facilities at the reserve had to be moved to make way for the new intersection and the memorial gates but we are proud we could use the opportunity to greatly improve these facilities for the netball club,” she said.
“It will be a big boost for the club to help retain members and entice new members. I am sure it will be used well by netballers as well as guests for years to come. The new public toilets will also greatly benefit the reserve user groups and spectators.”
Rythdale Officer Cardinia (ROC) Netball Club and the Officer Recreation Reserve’s committee of management also contributed funds to extend the pavilion’s outdoor spectator area.
