NOMINATIONS are now open for the 2016 Cardinia Shire Australia Day awards, acknowledging the shire’s most outstanding citizens.
Each year the council awards Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Community Organisation of the Year and the Community Service Award.
Cardinia mayor Leticia Wilmot said the awards were an opportunity to recognise residents who had made an exceptional contribution to the shire.
“I am sure that most residents would know someone who is always going above and beyond for their local community – and we all reap the benefits of their generosity,” she said.
“Nominating someone for an Australia Day award is a fantastic way to recognise their dedication to making Cardinia Shire the best it can be.”
The winners will be selected by a panel consisting of community representatives, council officers and councillors. Nominees must be residents of the Cardinia Shire, except in the Community Service Award Category.
The awards ceremony will be held on Australia Day, 26 January, at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.

Nominations will be accepted until 2pm on Friday 4 December.
