POLICE divers have returned to a Pakenham lake for a second day in search for an ‘item’ with links to an ongoing criminal investigation.
From 10am on Friday 2 October, at least two divers from the police Search and Rescue team were scouring the eight-metre deep lake in Cardinia Lakes Estate.
Three officers located on the bank of the lake were seen holding a rope believed to be attached to a diver searching the water, about noon.
Detective Senior Sergeant Garry Arends said the divers are searching for an item believed to have been used in a criminal incident in rural Victoria.
He could not confirm whether divers were searching for a weapon.
The investigation has been ongoing for about a year.
Det Sen Sgt Arends ruled out any links to ongoing murder, homicide or missing person’s or drug-related cases.
Police were at the lake a day earlier on Thursday 1 October.
Witnesses have told the Gazette officers were seen searching scrub surrounding the lake with rakes and similar equipment.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
