CFA crews battle grass fires east of Pakenham

A GRASSFIRE in Nar Nar Goon North has quickly spread, causing major concerns for residents’ safety.
Just after 2pm today, fire crews were sent out to a fire in Nar Nar Goon North.
At 3.45pm, more than 30 crews were on scene, attempting to battle the blaze travelling quickly in a westerly direction from Pooley Road towards Mortimer Road.
CFA issued urgent warnings to residents in Nar Nar Goon North, Maryknoll, Tynong North following the spread which has now joined with a separate trailing grassfire further north in Tonimbuk.
The out of control fire is also spreading in a westerly direction from the Ellis Road area.
CFA have cautioned residents in Tonimbuk, Bunyip North, Bunyip, Garfield North, Labertouche, Longwarry North, Longwarry and Bunyip to take care as the grassfire continued to spread.
CFA said an expected wind change may change the direction of the fire to the north-east, towards Labertouche.
Residents were seen evacuating the area.
