BEACONHILLS students have excelled in a competition building leadership, resilience, creativity and teamwork.
A team of five students from the college narrowly missed out on taking first prize in the national finals of the Hillary Challenge, an outdoor team competition held at Camp Jungai near Eildon.
The two-day event challenged students to activities including rogaining, cycling, kayaking, raft-building and other tests of skill, creativity and endurance.
After progressing through the state finals, the team left a map behind at a checkpoint, costing them first place at nationals.
But Head of Education at Beaconhills Sam Maddock said the students had displayed exceptional teamwork and dedication to training before the event, including running from the Pakenham to Berwick campus.
“They had really worked out that when you put your mind to it, you can get results,” he said.
“It was an outstanding effort, particularly as they were the youngest team in the competition.”
He congratulated team members Cooper R., Madison M., Renae J. and Will J. from Year 10 and Kaigyn T. from Year 9.
