PLANNING Minister Rob Hulls yesterday launched the new Bachelor of Regional and Urban Planning Courtse at Monash University’s Berwick campus.
Mr Hulls said the new degree would have places for about 30 students in its frist year and address a significant shortage of suitably qualified planners throughout Australia.

Looking back 20 years to 1995
THE Cardinia commissioners are pressing Federal and State Governments to bring forward the construction of the Pakenham Bypass.
The shire will have a population of around 100,000 by the year 2015, with almost all this growth concentrated in an area along the Princes Highway between Berwick and Pakenham, and the commissioners believe the bypass is needed if council is to be able to plan properly for that development.
THE inaugural pre-AFL Grand Final dinner in aid of the Narre Warren-based Windermere Child and Family Services raised $13,500.
Hosted by businessmen Carl Strachan, Murray Walker, Guy Jalland and James MacKenzie, the $150 a head dinner was held at the Sheraton Southgate the Tuesday before the grand final.

ONE of Upper Beaconsfield’s most popular couples, Stan and Beryl Hamilton, have been selected for the village’s 1985 Citizen of the Year Award.
A large crowd at a dinner at Beaconhills Country Golf Club last Saturday night showed their approval of the choice when Upper Beaconsfield Association president Murray Erwin announced the Hamiltons as the winners.
PLANS for major additions to the Berwick Inn have highlighted a parking problem in the Berwick Villages.
Cr Eddie Barron told the last council meeting that the hotel project and developments taking place in Blackburne Square would add to a parking problem north of High Street that would only get worse.
