Secret in their eyes (M)
Starring: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts

WHAT happens when the violent past won’t stay dead?
There’s a lot going on here – a stellar cast, a complex plot, and plenty of twists and turns. If you pick the twists at the end, you’re better than I am.
Chiwetel Ejiofor – also known as the man whose name I can’t pronounce – stars as an FBI detective working on counter-terror in the wake of 9/11.
Colleagues are Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman.
Roberts’ daughter is murdered, in a crime that may be linked to a local mosque.
Fast forward 13 years, and the characters reunite with the perpetrator of the crime still unpunished.
Be warned: this one jumps around a lot between those two timelines, but it’s well worth the ride.
Can the perpetrator be found 13 years later? Who’s keeping secrets? Has Chiwetel got his man? And who’s trying to stop him? How far should he go towards vigilantism?
(If you’re thinking about now that you saw Hugh Jackman play this role in ’Prisoners’, you may not be a million miles away).
Roberts’ performance is compelling: she’s drained and broken by the loss of her daughter.
Kidman actually acts in this one: a trend she started in The Railway Man. Watch for the scene when she verbally eviscerates a suspect – it’s gripping.
But the real star is the plot: and the unexpected twists and turns.
Still better than Spectre.
