A NUMBER of defibrillators have been installed in Lang Lang and surrounding areas in a joint community project aimed at keeping locals safe.
The Lang Lang Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) raised funds through community donations for eight defibrillators which will be installed in the Lang Lang region.
Lisa Hind of Ambulance Victoria said the Lang Lang Community Bank supported the community further by donating 24 defibrillators scattered throughout Lang Lang and the surrounding areas.
“The Lang Lang Community Bank has done an extraordinary job of working with the CERT team to make defibs accessible all through the region,” she said.
One of the defibrillators was recently installed into Lang Lang IGA – one of several sites assessed as being the best location for the life-saving devices by the emergency health responders.
The other defibrillators are located at the Lang Lang Community Centre, Rotary Club, Medical Centre, Memorial Hall, Kooweerup CFA and Kooweerup Bowls Club.
All of the local clubs and groups have had training for CPR and defibrillator operation by the first responders.
Survival from cardiac arrest is greatest when CPR and defibrillation are carried out by the public prior to ambulance arrival, according to Ambulance Victoria.
They are used to shock a patient’s heart back into a normal function by analysing a patient’s heart rhythm and applying a shock when necessary.
