ONE of the region’s most prominent anti-violence campaigners has praised the Pakenham community for their support of White Ribbon Day.
Tony Fitzgerald is the CEO of Outlook and attended the planned activities in Pakenham on Wednesday 25 November.
He congratulated all those who put their support behind the event, which aims to stamp out men’s violence against women.
“It was great to see the Pakenham community march, get behind and show their passion and commitment to end violence against women and children,” he said.
“The weak and cowardly males among us really believe that it is their right and privilege as males to commit abhorrent violence, abuse and all sorts of atrocities including murder against vulnerable women and children.”
Mr Fitzgerald was recently selected as a White Ribbon Ambassador for his understanding of gendered violence and his belief that men need to take a stand against the issue.
He said everyone has a role to play in preventing family violence and changing attitudes.
“The residents, Cardinia Council, businesses, politicians and Star News today showed their unity and absolute determination to stand up and no longer accept this appalling violence,” he said.
“We all must continue to say enough is enough and that we will do everything it takes to end this scourge on our community and society.”
