IN the lead-up to Christmas, a local pet shop is giving its customers the chance to help wildlife in need.
Pakenham’s Best Friends Pet Supercentre has recently named Bayles Wildlife Shelter as its nominated charity this December.
Throughout the month, there will be a Christmas tree in store for customers to donate either vouchers or supplies to the shelter.
Run by local woman Andrena Francey, Bayles Wildlife Shelter provides help for all native wildlife with an aim to rescue, rehabilitate and eventually release the animals in its care.
As well as the in-store tree, Best Friends will hold a VIP night from 4pm-8pm on 9 December, with all funds raised to be donated. Ten percent of profits from in-store Santa photos will also be generously contributed.
Coming into her busiest season, Andrena said she was extremely grateful for the support of the store and its customers.
“I couldn’t believe it when they contacted me to tell me I had been chosen. It’s such a generous thing to do,” she said.
“We receive no funding and rely completely on donations, so this will make a huge difference for the animals that we care for.”
Bayles Wildlife Shelter is a registered and RSPCA-approved shelter and can be contacted on 5997 7594.
