$9000 heist at rifle club

By ANEEKA SIMONIS

GUN offenders scaled the roof of the Lang Lang Rifle Club, breaking in and stealing close to a dozen longarm rifles and ammunition in the dead of night recently.
The burglary, just after midnight on Thursday 4 February, followed several unsuccessful attempts by the offenders to force their way into the storage shed and containers in search of firearms.
Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Senior Sergeant Trevor Smith said they cut the padlock to a storage shed, but did not take anything.
They also attempted to open a shipping container on the Range Road target shooting site, but failed to locate the concealed padlock.
Sometime after 12.10am, offenders managed to force entry into the site’s club house, taking off with 10 longarm firearms and a significant amount of ammunition.
The suspects, according to police, are believed to have carried out the $9000 heist over several hours.
The rifle club is open on Saturdays only.
Anyone with information about the incident or witnessed suspicious persons or cars in the area at the time is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
