FEMALE students of a former Berwick Secondary College teacher – a now imprisoned child sex offender – fear the man may again target minors following his scheduled release from jail next month.
Leanne and Beth, both 18, whose names have each been changed to protect their identity, spoke exclusively with the Gazette about their in-class experiences with disgraced former secondary school teacher Marinko Jankovic.
The 61-year-old is serving out the last few weeks of his six-month jail sentence handed down in September last year for taking more than 100 pornographic, upskirting images of female students from 11 years of age between 2011 and 2013.
The court heard he captured the majority of the images, featuring a total of 137 female students, with a covert pen camera he would leave near his desk before summoning female students wearing dresses or skirts to stand directly above the surveillance device at the front of the classroom.
Leanne, a student in Jankovic’s Year 9 and 10 commerce class, revealed the teacher would lean on female students’ desks, touch them inappropriately or offer them lollypops and icy poles that he’d insist to be eaten in front of him.
“He would always stand at the door as you left and have a hand on your lower back guiding you out as you left,” the 18-year-old recalled.
