Burglar flees with car keys

AN AGGRAVATED burglary scare and a series of car theft attempts rocked developing town Officer in recent weeks.
While the occupants of a Cyan Crescent, Officer home were asleep overnight on Tuesday 2 February, an unknown offender was rifling through their possessions.
But at 2.10am, the victim awoke to the sound of the garage door opening – foiling the offender’s getaway plan.
Police said the burglar was likely planning to take off with the victim’s car, but was spooked and fled upon realising the occupants were awake.
The victim’s car and house keys were taken in addition to a mobile phone and electronic gaming device valued at $900.
Meanwhile, in a 24-hour crime spree, five cars parked in Officer were also targeted by petty criminals.
Lincoln Avenue, Saffron Avenue, Henrietta Avenue, Lexington Crescent and Orchard Street in Officer were hit by thieves overnight between Tuesday 2 February and Wednesday 3 February.
The majority of the cars targeted were unlocked, with electronic goods including mobile phones and iPads among the items reported stolen.
Police investigating the reports were unable to confirm if the incidents are linked.
