A BERWICK woman battling serious ongoing health issues is $90,000 richer after winning a televised Good Friday cash prize give-away.
Sue Jones could not contain her emotion when she received an unexpected phone call from Channel 7’s Sunrise hosts and the Cash Cow mascot appeared on her doorstep.
The mother of four and grandmother of five has an auto-immune disease that has had her in and out of hospital over the past eight years.
Ms Jones described the prize as a Good Friday “miracle”.
“Believe me, we were really struggling,” she said.
“I’ve had several joints replaced and I’ve been on lots of cortisone which has affected my muscles.
“They’ve really deteriorated and it makes it hard to walk.
“I’ve had to give up work. My husband was also forced to close his business. We’ve had a lot of financial issues and even had to sell our house.”
Her son Brad said the prize could not have gone to a more deserving person.
“Mum was transferring money from one account to the other when she got the call,” he said.
“Mum and dad have been in a really rough situation. Dad’s had his own health issues recently. It’s an ongoing battle and they have finally found hope.”
Ms Jones plans to donate some of the money to the Royal Children’s Hospital as well as take her grandchildren to the Gold Coast theme parks and buy a new family dog.
They had two old dogs that passed away and the couple were unable to afford the vet bills required to care for another pet.
“I’ve had people recognise me and come up to me in the supermarket and congratulate me,” Ms Jones said.
“I want to say a big thank you to the community for all of their support. It really does mean a lot.”
