COME, share and give.
That is the hope of a well-known Pakenham mum hosting her first cancer fund-raiser since her son was given the all-clear following a stage four cancer scare.
Meryl Waterhouse, mother of former Maryknoll CFA captain Brad Waterhouse, will dedicate this year’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to her son who spent most of last year battling bowel cancer.
Thankfully, Brad, first diagnosed with a cancerous tumour, was put into remission at the end of last year – and Meryl said the fund-raiser would help support the services that saved her son.
“Almost every family is touched by cancer … because of Brad’s illness we decided we should do something, and this seems like a great way to get together and raise funds.”
This is Meryl’s second year hosting the fund-raiser.
She will offer guests Devonshire tea and a light lunch for $5 per person.
Last year, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea raised 13.6 million, beating the fund-raising goal of $13 million.
The morning tea by the Waterhouses will be one of several held around Australia throughout May and June.
Funds raised through the events help the Cancer Council fund work in cancer research, prevention and support services.
The Waterhouse family’s morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be held from 10am until 4pm on Saturday 28 May at 315 Pakenham Road, Pakenham.
