POLICE nabbed a 26-year-old man allegedly travelling at more than 70km/h over the speed limit in Pakenham over the long weekend.
The man was allegedly driving at 171km/h in the 100km/h zone on the Princess Freeway Kooweerup Road off-ramp when he was pulled over by police, about 8am on Sunday 12 June.
Police ran checks of the driver and discovered he was driving unlicenced and was wanted on outstanding warrants.
The driver was caught as part of Operation Regal that ran from Friday 10 June until midnight Monday 13 June and focused on contributing factors of road accidents.
Another speedster was intercepted earlier that morning, about 1.50am, outbound on the Princes Freeway near Cardinia Road.
The 25-year-old woman was detected by Cardinia Highway Patrol travelling 167km/h in a 100km/h zone and tested positive for alcohol.
Police immediately suspended the woman’s licence and her car was impounded.
Operation Regal also intercepted a speeding vehicle about 10.20am on Monday 13 June outside Gumbuya park.
The vehicle was found to be unregistered and was impounded due to the 34-year-old male driver having relevant prior offences and driving while disqualified.
The state-wide operation over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend involved police targeting driver distraction, fatigue, impairment, speed and seatbelts.
