A FIVE-VEHICLE crash involving a truck on the Princes Freeway has closed the road in both directions, with traffic diversions onto the Princes Highway causing major delays.
Police have closed all outbound and inbound lanes of the Princes Freeway between Cardinia Road and the Princes Highway after a prime-mover truck struck a BMW sedan just before Cardinia Road at about 9.45am.
The truck struck another car before crashing into another prime mover. It then went on to hit a third truck.
Inbound traffic was diverted onto the Princes Highway, while outbound traffic has been diverted north onto Cardinia Road and then on to the Princes Highway.
Drivers were advised to expect major delays due to the diversions which have caused a standstill, especially in Officer where roadworks have restricted traffic to one lane on the highway.
Ambulance officers assessed three people at the scene and a man believed to be in his forties was taken to Dandenong Hospital with minor injuries.
Emergency services confirmed he is in a stable condition.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.
