Double the limit

A MAN has faced court for speeding at more than double the speed limit while overtaking mid-afternoon traffic on Webster Way, Pakenham.
Ryan Allan told intercepting police he was “in a rush” and wanted to overtake a Landcruiser after speeding at 130km/h in the 60km/h zone, about 3.40pm on 29 May.
Allan’s 2006 Liberty sedan was observed overtaking on McGregor Road and Webster Way as well as heavily breaking to avoid a crash at a roundabout, Dandenong Magistrates’ Court was told on Monday 25 July.
He was charged $972 to release his car, which was immediately impounded for a month.
Magistrate Julie O’Donnell said it had been a “very expensive exercise” for the electrician, but it was “very serious driving”.
At court, he was convicted, fined $800 and disqualified for the mandatory minimum 12 months.
Allan was also ordered to complete a safe-driving program.
