AIR guitar, Disney classics and roof raising ballads had the crowd pumping and the judges in a bicker at the Star Search for a Cause grand final.
Co-director of the competition Louise Berkelmans said the celebrity judges were blown away with the talent.
“It was very difficult to decide between the performances and they had one very heated discussion over the seniors section,” Ms Berkelmans said.
Fourteen aspiring acts performed on Sunday 24 July at Westfield Fountain Gate to a massive crowd of around 500.
From 80 audition hopefuls there were just four winners.
“All the winners and runner-up got a prize, a trophy and a gift bag,” Ms Berkelmans said.
The prize money was as high as $400 for the 21 and over category and the People’s Choice award went to Frankie Mileto.
“Hundreds of people voted for the People’s Choice on the day and we raised $1400 just on votes for the fan favourite,” Ms Berkelmans said.
It’s the competition’s eighth year and Ms Berkelmans said it will be back next year with a bang.
“We had great feedback from people who didn’t win as well, the atmosphere was fantastic and the level talent was probably the best we’ve seen,” she said.
The money raised goes to the Cancer Council and over eight years the competition has contributed $20,000 to cancer research.
