A BUNYIP nursing home will have an additional palliative care bed thanks to the Bunyip Community Op Shop’s annual distribution of its funds.
Almost $40,000 raised by the op shop over the past year was distributed among 27 recipients, 12 of which were from the Bunyip area, on Friday 22 July.
About 80 residents from Bunyip and the wider community attended the presentation at Bunyip Hall.
Chairperson Sue Beattie said that aside from keeping one month’s rent, all funds go directly back into the community.
“Hillview Bunyip Aged Care received $7000 to cover the cost of a new palliative care bed and mattress,” she said.
“One of the other larger donations was $2400 to Longwarry Primary School to support kindergarten children’s transition program into starting school.”
Other groups to receive funding include Bunyip Primary School, Garfield Kindergarten, Longwarry Kindergarten, Garfield Bowling Club, 4Cs, Bunyip Hall, the Bunyip senior and junior football clubs and Bayles pre-school.
Ms Beattie said the Bunyip Community Op Shop was run by about 35 volunteers who were aged in their mid-seventies on average.
The Bunyip Community Op Shop is open from Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings.
