CHILDREN from St Patrick’s Primary School in Pakenham are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the school by planting a commemorative oak tree for National Tree Day.
The oak tree was provided as part of a sponsorship by the Ascot estate in Pakenham, in addition to a range of materials and fruit trees that the school is using to expand their vegetable gardens.
St Patrick’s Primary School Principal Mick O’Brien said the planting of the oak tree would mark a very special occasion for the school, its sesquicentenary.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate with the wider Pakenham community and it is great to have the support of Ascot Estate to commemorate our 150th year,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Schooling commenced on this site in 1866, today we are celebrating all past and present students and teachers.
“In years to come the oak tree will provide shade and a reminder of the school’s past for future students.
“At St Patrick’s Primary School we value and try to instil students with a sense of community spirit so it’s really important to have support from local organisations like Ascot,” Mr O’Brien said.
