Skilled Scouts celebrate successes

Cub Jaylen Grace gives Scouts the thumbs up.

PAKENHAM Scout Group celebrated another successful year at its annual general meeting recently.
This year the group achieved the Scouts Victoria Chief Commissioner’s Award for growth and wore the Quality Scouting Badge for great retention of participants in the Joey and Cub sections.
According to Pakenham Scout Group Leader Jason Baird, the young members are benefitting from their Scouting experience in a significant way.
“When I look at the kids when they come to us and watch them develop I generally see growing confidence and self-reliance and youth members that have experienced things and places that very few of their peers have,” he said.
Pakenham Scouts have taken part in a myriad of activities such as canoeing, hiking, swimming, camping and climbing over that past 12 months.
They also attended the Scouts Victoria Kangaree and the Scouts Australia Jamboree in NSW.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Jodie Owen attended the Pakenham Scout Group Annual Review and Presentation earlier in the month, noting the great work that Scouts undertake in local communities.
“Each of you has something special to bring to your community.
“You might not be clear about what your contribution could be yet, but becoming a Scout is a positive and beneficial step to realising that potential,” she said.
She said experiences that Scouts offer young people are easily translatable into skills that are useful in adulthood.
“The people you connect with as a Scout will stand you in great stead for becoming a strong, resilient, creative adult”.
The Pakenham Scout Group offers opportunities in all sections of the movement from Joeys to Rovers.
