Service medals for Red Cross

THE Pakenham Branch of Red Cross held a very successful annual general meeting on Wednesday 24 August, and among the visitors were Cr George Blenkhorn and Member for Bass Brian Paynter.
President Lyn Stephenson welcomed all and thanked everyone who had worked in various positions throughout the past year as well as members and helpers from other organisations -Inner Wheel Ladies, CWA, Probus and friends. They have assisted with the Red Cross Blood Bank, serving refreshments to the donors.
The Blood Bank visited Pakenham four times a year, and 2307 units of blood were donated.
Ten years long service awards were presented to Mabel Wybenga and Pauline Grey.
Past member Meryl Waterhouse was presented with a Service Award for Outstanding Service to Red Cross. A citation was read about her outstanding work in many positions.
She has also opened her home and garden on many occasions to help raise funds, and this has been greatly appreciated.

“Our branch would like to thank Mr Brian Paynter for chairing the election of new office bearers – chairman – Lyn Stephenson, secretary – Helen Watson, treasurer – Pauline Grey.
He was also thanked for the donation of a basket of chocolates for the raffle, and his interesting talk about growing up in Pakenham and the need for people to keep volunteering.
The meeting closed with afternoon tea, which was enjoyed by all present.
