THE Green sisters have simultaneously been recognised with five Best and Fairest trophies for their respective grades after a successful winter netball season.
The five sisters among the Garfield family of eight began their netball stint in Drouin about 10 years ago and one of their brother’s football games brought them to join him in Garfield.
Eldest sister Gemma Green, C Grade, said the girls had been excited to all receive the award in the same year.
“It’s a pretty big deal to win any time, let alone all in the same year. It was a nice surprise,” she said.
“It’s a great common interest us girls have and we’ve got a mix of shooters and defenders so we can practice with each other.
“Netball’s a good opportunity to play competitively and it’s been a sport we can all be involved in.”
The 24-year-old along with her younger sisters Sophie (F Grade), Anna (A Grade), Molly (D Grade) and Georgia Green (B Grade) each won the Best and Fairest award for their respective grades, with Anna seizing the inaugural Collis memorial trophy that recognises the Collis family’s contribution to Garfield Netball Club over the years.
“I can’t imagine not playing with everyone together,” Gemma said.
“There are some weekends where we’ll be at the grounds from 8am until 3pm because our games are all staggered, so it becomes a big day-long event.
“Netball’s a great way of keeping up our fitness and there’s always room for improving your skills.”
