OFFICER Primary School’s 130-year celebration soldiered on indoors through wet weather last Friday, reuniting generations of students past and present.
Alumni and prominent members of the Officer community Brett Owen, Carol Porter and Rob Porter delivered speeches during the cake cutting ceremony, recalling fond memories of their time at Officer Primary.
School Council president Michael Ball reminded attendees of the school’s long proud history, first having opened in 1886, and the role Officer primary School has played in the area.
“It is worth a special mention to the Centenary Committee of 1986 and the hard work of Eileen Williams in writing the Centenary book that has preserved the history of our school not just for the children of today but also for generations to come,“ he said.
“The children were all very excited about the celebration.
“The parents and friends organised a host of games for indoor activities to keep the children entertained, including some old time favourites like hopscotch, egg and spoon races and even some arcade games like space invaders and PacMan made a comeback.
“Thank you to everyone who helped with the evening.“
Officer Primary School’s next special date will be in 2036 when the school unveils its time capsule to mark the 150th anniversary.
